NO.

NO.

NO.

Do you know why this word exists?

Drapetomania is the fictitious disease  that the Southern slave doctor Samuel A. Cartwright created to categorize the tendency for slaves to run away as a mental illness to be cured.  Because white people wholeheartedly believed that enslaving us was a service to us ( saving us from our brutish, lascivious, and lazy ways)  and any right minded individual could see that..The prescribed punishment treatment for drapetomania was torture and hard labor.

Do not put this on your artsy blogs.

Do not erase the deplorable history behind it.

This is a truly heinous word. Whoever originally posted this was an ignorant fuck. And this definition is a crock of shit.

An overwhelming urge to run away.

Go fuck yourself.

Rule of thumb: Never trust any word that contains “mania”, there is usually historical oppression and destruction behind them.

ALSO, “rule of thumb” should stop being used because it came about as a way of measurement for sticks that men were allowed to beat their wives with. The “rule of thumb” was that any stick could be used to beat your wife/daughter if the width of the stick was no larger than the width of your thumb. So like, don’t use that either?????

i’m pretty sure the phrase “rule of thumb” has been so detached from its original meaning that we can use it without guilt. let’s not make absolutely everything about social justice because if we did, half our vocabulary would be deemed offensive

a lake in montana whose water is so clear it appears shallow, when really its over 100 feet deep!

this is actually kinda terrifying because what if someone doesn’t know how deep it is, so they go diving and try to swim to the bottom, but they always seem just out of reach, so they just keep swimming… and when they realize something’s wrong it’s too late

Imagine seeing a body at the bottom….

tumblr has the ability to turn everything beautiful into something terrifying

What if you see a skeleton at the bottom of what appears to be a shallow part of the lake. As you dive down to check them out you notice the water is deeper than you originally thought. Much deeper. You come to realize that there is no way these remains could be human, you’re not even half-way down and already the skull already looks bigger than your car

This started so tranquil and then it turned into Friday the 13th

This is what terrifies me about the ocean.

the few times I’ve gone snorkelling this is the most intensely scary but amazing thing about it, the bit where the reef ends and it suddenly just drops off and you cant see the bottom or what’s down there, and you swim over the edge and suddenly your in open water, and you feel so vulnerable like you’re a fish that lives on the reef, and you finally understand finding nemo

you finally understand finding nemo

It’s like falling off a cliff in slow motion
